SUMMARY:
The Wooden Floor’s mission is to inspire and transform the lives of young people through the power of dance and access to higher education. The Next Step Program© is a key part of this mission, providing comprehensive college and career readiness guidance to students in their middle and high school years. We believe in nurturing relationships and fostering a supportive, growth-oriented environment for both students and staff.
As an Academic Advisor at The Wooden Floor, you will play a vital role in guiding students through their academic journey and preparing them for their future careers. You will work collaboratively within The Next Step Program©, focusing on personalized guidance and support that meets the unique needs of each student. Your ability to communicate effectively, listen actively, and maintain a positive demeanor will be crucial to your success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide individualized one-to-one guidance (in-person) to assigned students, ensuring their academic and personal development.
- Foster positive relationships with students, acting as a role model and mentor.
- Plan and deliver monthly sessions on various college and career readiness topics; tailored to the needs of the cohort.
- Achieve monthly goals and objectives set by the College and Career Readiness Coordinator.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and activities.
- Prepare reports on student development and program outcomes.
- Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of student information.
- Work closely with the College and Career Readiness Coordinator to align program goals and activities.
- Promote The Wooden Floor’s Scholarship Program, tracking student progress.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with other Academic Advisors to manage attendance and follow-ups.
- Be flexible and willing to take on additional duties as needed to support the cohort and program.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, education, humanities, or related fields, preferred.
- Associate degree in social sciences, education, humanities, or related fields in process is acceptable.
- Minimum of two years of experience working with children in social services, recreation, or after-school organizations.
- Fluency in Spanish (oral and written) is a plus.
- Ability to pass criminal background check.
COMPUTER & EQUIPMENT SKILLS:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to maintain and update electronic and paper student records.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Occasionally bend, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, handle objects, push/pull, and reach above shoulder level.
- Frequently sit, walk, and use fine finger movements.
- Occasionally lift and carry loads up to 25 pounds.
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Assist with the execution of special events and activities as requested.
- Collaborate with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of all programs and services offered by The Wooden Floor.
Compensation: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour
